Power Supply
The size of this section doesn't really merit an introduction, but to conform to the rest of the page formats, i may as well. So within this section i will be covering two things, Internal battery, and external source.
Internal Battery:
There are many different types of power supply when it comes to technology, some have to be plugged in, some have to be recharges, and some have to have the whole battery replaced once its drained. Popular devices which have internal batteries include mobiles, handhelds, and laptops. From recent years, the use of rechargeable batteries has become more and more common within tech, and although devices such as Laptops and Mobiles have utilized rechargeable batteries since the beginning, smaller devices such as the handheld consoles have not. Its only since the addition of Nintendo's DS that rechargeable batteries have been used within portable gaming devices. This is due to the fact that when looking at which type of internal battery to use, its all about the most cost effective, yet longest lasting one possible. Back when the Gameboy was first created, it was simply the best idea at the time to use normal replaceable batteries, as it would keep the system alive for many hours, and was much more cost effective for manufacturers. But because of the DS's much higher processing power requirements, and double screen, it meant more power was required. This is when the power supply went from disposable to rechargeable. Disadvantages of a rechargeable power supply is that if left on charge for too long after the battery is at 100%, it could overcharge the battery, which in turn damages the life span of it, reducing the time it takes to run flat. Not only this, but because you are using the same battery, over time even without overcharging, the battery will become more strained from its continuous use, which can also reduce the amount of life it can have between charges. But how do rechargeable batteries function? Well normal batteries function on a chemical reaction which converts chemical into electrical via rating electrodes and an anode. Ordinarily this is an irreversible, however a rechargeable battery is able to efficiently reverse the electrons charge within the discharge process, allowing it to restore its full charge when provided extra electricity. These types of batteries can be a lot more bulkier, making it possible to power larger items such as laptops. |
Even computers can have a battery within them, this type of battery is a UPS battery backup. The point of this UPS battery is to protect the computers data and memory from things such as power surges or cuts. These unexpected losses of power can be harmful to data which has not been stored properly, and can corrupt files. This is why UPS batteries act as a battery backup, and help smooth out the power that goes into the computer by making it more consistent going in, to boost reliability. These types of batteries are only really found within expensive and very important computers. This includes servers, and more specifically game servers. By having this counter measure and extra protection, it will reduce the risk of disrupting players if the online game servers go down, and will therefore make for a more enjoyable experience.
External Source:

This charger cab;e is a form of external source for power supply, as it is the aspect which converts electricity from a main power outlet, into electricity which can be stored within the battery. The use of such a cable is very handy as it is often portable so when traveling the battery can still be charged. This is another aspect to which it is useful, as most rechargeable battery cables use a plug, making it easier to find an eligible place to charge. Most, if not all, devices that are ion charge can still be used, and so if a portable device is no longer being used to walk around with, it can be turned into a static device with unlimited battery life. The most common scenario for this would probably be a laptop, as people often find themselves using it in the same room or place all the time. And eventually as the batter decays, it needs to remain plugged in anyway, to keep it on for long periods of time. Because many gamers find themselves playing for hours at a time,it is often easiest to keep the device on charge the whole duration, so you don't need to keep plugging and unplugging the device. This is why consoles are good, as they use a constant external source, as they have no battery within them. It means they are tailored better to a hard core gamer's lifestyle.
